Families
I’ve grown to realize how important a supportive family can be. I also know how difficult it can be to parent children through the complicated emotions of life. I have parented 9 children and 84 foster children through a rollercoaster of emotions.
Working through my own emotional challenges and those of the children in my life has inspired me to look for a deeper understanding of what it means to become emotionally stable.
Most parents want their children to grow up feeling loved and accepted by those around them. We also want to instill in them the courage to stand up and do what is right!
Some children have a hard time with the way we protect them from the hidden dangers of this world.
It can be very frustrating for a parent when a child struggles with the way they parent.
It is also difficult for a child because this type of disconnect can prevent them from feeling our love and concern.
That is why it is vitally important for the parent child relationship to include emotional resilience skills that help them have a better understanding of the emotional world around them.
Research indicates that those who understand their emotions have better communication skills, stronger relationships and are more stable during challenging times.
However, many people find that gaining emotional stability in a world where understanding our emotions is not really taught can be rather difficult.
That’s where I come in. I help families customize an emotional resilience plan that will give each member of the family the individual support that they need.
Some of the family skills we focus on include:
- Understanding how to create an emotionally safe environment
- Establishing mutual respect
- Learning and implementing clear communication skills
- Defining family rules and aligning them with family values.
- Clarifying personal and family boundaries
- Taking accountability for choices made without judgement or blame.
This summer I will be offering a six-week family coaching program on the skills needed to implement an intentional family system.
The curriculum will include:
- Weekly Family Meetings
- Accountability
- Effective Communication
- Family Values Clarification
- Building Family Unity
- Commitment to the Future
A strong marriage is an essential part of creating an intentional family relationship. During the six week sessions we will have weekly check-ins to explore ways these bonds can be strengthened.
Strengthening marriages focuses on:
- Empathy
- Openness
- Forgiveness
- Shared Values
- Integrity
